5 things I've

learnt this year

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears”

I have been so excited to write this post and one I’ve been thinking about since I got back from Cyprus at the start of November.

Xen turns 1 in January; this time last year I was bed ridden with the worst flu ever but because I didn’t rest and recover properly it lingered for about 3 months and took until April this year to finally shift.

It was over the Christmas break that I realised I wanted to bring my dreams to life like I had done with the company I was working for at the time. It took me 5 years to realise I could actually do it, plus being pestered by my colleagues to do work whilst I was sweating out a fever was just the push I needed.

It’s been a whirlwind of a year and I’m pleased to say that I have achieved everything I set out to do whilst learning a few valuable lessons along the way...

Your Comfort Zone Will Kill You

If I get too comfortable, I get tired and lazy. I don’t like being either of those things. I love the creativity of my role, I love that everyday is different and I love the excitement of a new project; the butterflies, the energy, bouncing ideas around and bringing them to life. So for me stepping outside of my comfort zone and launching Xen was one of the most scariest things I’ve done because I didn’t know how it would be received, how it would be judged and whether it would be a success. I looked back on my experience and realised I needed to believe in myself like those around me did and just go for it.

Take Time Out

This is so important. Whether you’re part of a business or running your own, spending time on you is vital to your success and mental health. It allows you to recharge those batteries which means your mind is relaxed and you have a new lease of life. You go back to work feeling the best you’ve felt and that allows you to give so much more than when you’re running on empty.

You’re Not Alone

I thought going it alone meant I was literally all alone. How wrong was I?! When I told my closest friends they had nothing but support and love for my venture and this has what has got me through. Their belief in me was so strong and they had my back at every given opportunity. When I told my MD I wanted to leave his company to pursue my own dreams he had nothing but support for me and even allowed me to network at quite a few events to help me get my name out there. It’s one thing believing in yourself but an amazing feeling when others believe in you and your dreams. This is a thank you to them.

Remember To Give Back

This time of year I love to give back to those less fortunate. Whether Xen was here or not it’s something I have done for the last two years. This year I supported two charities – The Children’s Liver Disease Foundation and One Day At Christmas. All that was needed was a bit of my time and some donations.

Always Aim Big

My goal this year was to launch Xen, attract at least one client and most importantly work with those who share the same values as me. These might be small goals but I guess I wanted to play it safe. That said, my 2020 goals are going to be much bigger and much more scarier. I want to grow Xen, attract new clients, focus on three foundations of my business and by doing that I will be constantly living outside of my comfort zone so watch this space!

Merry Christmas to all of you and here’s to an amazing 2020!
