GREAT THINGS NEVER CAME FROM COMFORT ZONES
If it scares you it might be a good thing to try
When I first started Xen I promised myself that I would publish a blog post at least once a week. I can’t believe my last post was Sticky Wicket which just goes to show what a crazy two months its been!
This post has been in the back of my mind for a while. I won my first client at the end of July and since then it’s been a journey of chaos, exhaustion and self-learning. Today is my first day off in six weeks and I’m using it to reflect on recent weeks and what’s to come.
I started part time with my new client back at the start of August and remember thinking ‘Can I really do this?’ I guess we all have those feelings of self doubt despite your tribe constantly telling you how great you are. I honestly felt way out of my comfort zone managing the expectations of my new client and trying to maintain my standards and wrap things up at my current place.
The hardest thing, for me, was to split my mind into two and not let one impact the other. I only managed to achieve this in the last couple of weeks as I noticed the changes I implemented for my new client were starting to take effect and I got that excitement back that I had been missing for so long.
Wrapping things up at my current place has been strange, and as I come to my final week I have been reflecting heavily on the last two and a half years. The live events industry has been one that I have fallen in love with, one that will always hold my heart. This is down to the passionate, hard-working people that go above and beyond to deliver everyday; all of the values I hold dearly. Because of this, my job has been one of the most enjoyable, to promote and bring to life a brand that supports all of the above. But as with all things you have to take time out and think about what’s best for you and all I want is to challenge myself and push my boundaries.
This involves stepping out of my comfort zone, creating my own processes and learning to answer to myself. It’s such a strange feeling when you’ve answered to others for 12 years of your career. At the moment I’m learning something new everyday and I love that feeling of ‘wow’. The thing is I have probably done this a hundred times before but creating that first campaign still gives me butterflies and pushes me to do the best for that brand.
So here’s to the next chapter with a lot more self-learning and doing things that scare me!
